Weekly #2

We were planning to put this weekly update up every week, but so far not so good. It has been a couple of weeks since the last one and a lot has happened since then. We have left the Philippines, we had a three nights layover in Singapore and we have arrived in Sri Lanka!

Last time we wrote we were on beautiful Siquijor Island and we were enjoying the relaxed vibe, taking in its beauty and we were chasing waterfalls, waterfalls, and even more waterfalls. After we had left Siquijor we took the ferry to Moalboal, which is a place two hours southwest of Cebu City. Moalboal is a real scuba diving destination and it was a lot of scuba diving shops and small, cute restaurants.

Close to Moalboal they also have one of the world’s most famous waterfalls Kawasan falls. What kind of waterfall hunters would we be if we didn’t go to see that one? Said and done, we jumped on our motorbike early in the morning and headed off. The drive from Moalboal to Kawasan falls was about 45 minutes. We arrived around 7 am. We thought we were going to be alone but people had already started to arrive and it was a few other people around. It probably didn’t help that it was a Sunday. We were happy anyway though since the waterfall was out of this world beautiful. It was living up to all the photos of it on Instagram which is extremely rare.

The whole morning, we spent just exploring the different levels of the waterfall and had a lot of fun. We left the waterfalls around 10 am and by then there were so many people there, swimming and jumping into the falls. The plan for us was to get back to the free breakfast at our hostel but those plans were crushed. Because someone had closed the keyhole on our bike. We didn’t have the original key so we got a bit stressed. Without the original key we now could not drive our scooter back. There were about 10 local people who tried to help us open it but without success. It all ended with that we had to take the bus back to Moalboal. Elin got stressed that she wouldn’t get her passport back from the motorbike rental since we didn’t have the bike with us.

So, we made it back to our hostel and they were kind enough to give us breakfast even if we were half an hour late. Probably because they felt bad for us after we had told our story. We had our breakfast and then headed to the motorbike rental to get everything sorted out. The lady thought it was our fault that someone had closed the keyhole. She said that we probably hadn’t paid for parking at Kawasan Falls (which we for the record had!) but after a lot of talking back and forth she gave us another bike for that day. And Elin got her passport back. This was probably the most dramatic that has happened during our travels but it all got sorted.

After our few days in Moalboal, we headed to Cebu City where we the next day took the flight to Singapore. The reason we wanted to go to Singapore was mainly because of UNIVERSAL STUDIOS, and was it worth it, Hell to the YES!! We had an amazing day at Universal Studios and we enjoyed every second of it, felt like kids again. Our second day in Singapore we spent doing more grown-up stuff, such as heading to the art museum, the Garden by the Bay and stroll around between different tourist attractions. Elin also had Indian food for the first time in Singapore and she LOVED IT! The days in Singapore passed by fast and it was time for us to head on to Sri Lanka, where we are now.

Sri Lanka is probably one of the most amazing countries we ever visited. The people are so friendly. The ocean and the beaches are beyond beautiful and the food, oh the food is the most delicious we ever have eaten! It is also very easy to eat a plant-based diet here. We have been in Sri Lanka for 13 days now. We have spent 7 days in Stoked surf camp and learned (or at least really tried to learn) how to surf. It was such a good time. It was also well needed to be in the same place for a bit longer for once. Surfing is hard but so much fun!

That was all from us for this weekly. We hope all of you had great Valentine’s Day because we surely did. Lots of love!

Xx
